The Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park and UNESCO Global Geopark, straddling both the Région Normandie and Région des Pays de la Loire, spans four departments: Orne, Sarthe, Mayenne, and Manche. Covering an area of 257,789 hectares, it encompasses 136 municipalities, 15 intercommunal structures, and 6 partner towns. The designated area is home to 93,900 inhabitants. Its emblem is a stag, symbolizing the forests that make up over 20% of the territory.
The initial designation of the Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park was established by decree of the Prime Minister on October 23, 1975, making it the 14th Regional Natural Park in France, out of the 59 currently in existence. Its Regional Natural Park status was subsequently renewed in 1996, then in 2008, and most recently in 2025.
